Our org requires background checks. The check comes after the candidate selection. The information is collected at application to speed the process along. By asking for DOB, they're setting themselves up for a possible age-discrimination law suit and is a stupid move on their part.
The only time SSN any part of it should be provided is when you're filling out your benefits paperwork in the HR department of your new employer. Any request for this information, regardless of if I'm hard up for a job or not, will get thrown in the trash. This is a privacy breach of epic proportions waiting to happen did this request come via unencrypted e-mail?
Or if supporting C-levels, they could be privy to info that they could see on a desk or hear in an office Honest question - what good is last 4 of SSN outside of social engineering? Verify prior employment? I know you can do all that with a full SSN - but I honestly don't know how far you can legitimately get with just the last 4.
That's grounds for age discrimination. Is this for one of those recruiting firms? They promised me the sky but never delivered any interviews, let alone jobs. Way too easy for that info to get to the wrong place. Perhaps they are seeing how security conscious their new employee to be is and if you give out your D. B and last 4 of SSN then you don't get the job! To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
