The Apple ID associated with an iCloud account that is used on a device does not have to be the same as the one used with iTunes on the same device. When it comes to iCloud mail, contacts, reminders, and notes, you can actually set up multiple iCloud accounts on each device.
The second apple Id is set as a secondary account. You can sign out of iCloud and keep the Contacts for that iCloud account on the iOS device, and then merge them into another iCloud account, but Calendars, Notes, etc.
You can, but for most people, the best solution is to share an ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores, but keep separate IDs for iCloud, iMessage and Facetime. If you share the same ID for iCloud, you will be sharing the same iCloud account. Enter the shared Apple ID and password. If a different Apple ID is currently being used, you will need to sign out of the existing Apple ID before entering the new one.
