Where is gutermann thread made

Has anyone but me noticed the poor quality of Gutermann thread lately? I have a Viking that has never seen anything but Gutermann thread. I kept having problems with my tension and took it in to get it checked out.

Guess what? I had a big ball of lint in my tension guides from the thread. It wasn't something I did! A couple of years ago, about to make a silk garment for the first time, I asked for guidance from a clerk I trusted at my local FabricLand. She sold me Gutermann thread.

I never had such a hassle with any thread. On size nine needles, it broke, frayed, linted and generally made itself unpopular. I finally switched to good old reliable Coats and Clark to finish the garment. Cotton threads will produce some lint while sewing, while polyester threads don't produce lint. Cotton is great for piecing, while polyester is better used for quilting. Cotton will shrink, while polyester will not.
